Bio:

Dale Avers, PT, DPT, PhD, FAPTA is Associate Professor and Director of the Post-professional DPT program in the Program of Physical Therapy Education at Upstate Medical University and a Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association. She earned degrees from the University of Kentucky (BHS and MSEd), Indiana University (PhD), and Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (DPT). She has edited and authored two textbooks, the 3rd edition of Geriatric Physical Therapy and the 9th edition of the Hislop and Montgomery Muscle Testing text. She has written on many geriatric topics for peer reviewed journals. She is a past Associate Editor of the Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy. She has received several honors and awards including the APTA’s Lucy Blair Service Award, the Distinguished Educator Award from the Section on Geriatrics and the State University of New York’s Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. She is a past President of the Section on Geriatrics (now Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy). She speaks internationally on topics in geriatrics related to optimal aging, functional evaluation, exercise and evidence-based practice. Dr. Avers has been a practicing clinician in geriatrics and outpatient orthopedics for over 30 years.
