Knee Osteoarthritis
Knee Osteoarthritis (OA) is a painful and debilitating condition affecting approximately 13.6% of women and 10% of mean over 60 years old - approximately 4.3 million Americans. While the specific cause of knee OA remains unknown, factors such as obesity, knee alignment and knee strength are known to contribute to the condition.
Several studies have suggested that weakness of the front thigh muscles (quadriceps) may actually cause knee OA: individuals with strong quadriceps muscles are 64% less likely to get knee OA. Exercise programs should include strength, flexibility, and balance exercises.
