Bio:
DR. CAROLE B. LEWIS is a practicing physical therapist (PT) who also conducts clinical research, teaches at two universities, edits a respected quarterly clinical research journal, and writes a monthly column in a magazine for practicing physical therapists. During the past 30 years, she has worked in home health care, long-term care, acute hospitals, rehabilitation departments, and outpatient clinics. Her area of expertise is geriatric rehabilitation and health education. Lewis founded and served as president of Premier Physical Therapy, a private practice begun in Washington, D.C. in 1981, which went on to become one of the largest PT practices in the region. She sold her practice to Professional Sportscare and Rehab in 2007, but continues to work with them in a clinical capacity. She also holds appointments at George Washington University College of Medicine as a full adjunct professor and at the University of Maryland’s School of Medicine, in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. She is a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), and a recipient of both the Lucy Blair Service Award and the Joan Mills Award, the highest honor offered by the APTA section on geriatrics. Lewis’ many contributions to the profession include holding local and national offices for industry associations and serving as the president of both the District of Columbia chapter and the Section on Geriatrics of the APTA. She also served as the APTAs representative to the White House Conference on Aging and Mental Health.
