Lee JH, Yoo WG 2012 Achilles

Treatment of chronic Achilles tendon pain by Kinesio taping in an amateur badminton player

Instructions:

Kinesiology tape was applied over 5 weeks (six times per week for an average of 10 h each time); tension was approximately 130-1400%. For the KT application, the Achilles tendon was stretched in the prone position by dorsiflexion within the pain- free range, and an I-type strip was applied from the posterior surface of the calcaneus distal to the upper part of the gastrocnemius junction (Fig. A). For KT of the soleus and gastrocnemius muscle complex, a Y-shaped strip was applied from the posterior surface of the calcaneus distal to the articular surfaces of the lateral and medial condyles of the femur in the same position (Fig. B). The I-type strip was applied to the ankle joint in a neutral position in both directions to elevate the calcaneus in the ankle mortise over the origin of the plantar fascia (Fig. C).
